The iconic adaptation of Carl Orff’s beloved cantata by National Artist for Dance, Alice Reyes, returns with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Philippine Madrigal Singers with soprano Lara Maigue.
Performances run from June 14-15 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.
Alice Reyes’ CARMINA BURANA is one of the company’s most iconic pieces. Inspired by the goliardic verses set to Carl Orff’s majestic score, Reyes tells the story of a community experiencing the joys of life, drinking, and love, through exuberant, erotic, and pagan movements.
This new restaging will feature live music by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philippine Madrigal Singers and guest soloist Lara Maigue.
Mesmerizing sets and costumes are by the late National Artist for Theater Design Salvador Bernal.

Also featured in the first half of the program is Reyes’ DUGSO, a work inspired by rituals performed by the tribes of Bukidnon, Mindanao, set to National Artist for Music, Dr. Ramon Santos’ choral piece Ding Ding nga Diyawan. First performed in 1972 it is a groundbreaking collaboration by the two National Artists. It was last staged in 1990 and is being brought back for a new generation of audiences.
Norman Walker’s romantic pas de deux, SUMMER’S END, and Augustus ‘Bam’ Damian III’s AFTER WHOM, a showcase of the company’s dynamism and bravado in neo-classical, modern, and contemporary ballet complete the repertoire for an unforgettable evening.
Presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Alice Reyes Dance Philippines through the initiative of Senator Pia Cayetano, the production also features the Kilyawan Boys Choir and dance trainees from the University of the East’s Silanganan Dance Troupe.
