OPENING RECEPTION

Oct 13 2018, 6PM

Artinformal presents three new solo exhibitions by Christina Quisumbing Ramilo, Mawen Ong, and Veronica Peralejo at the gallery’s Makati location opening on Oct 13, 2018, 6pm. The shows will be on view until Nov 10, 2018.

Verses Reverse by Christina Quisumbing Ramilo speak of futility, a general sense of disconnect, and how the power/danger of speech and oral tradition that is referenced in biblical texts resonate with the present milieu.

Mawen Ong’s Coming into the Nearness of Distance is a journey towards a clearing space, a ‘field of awareness’. By layering and repeating images of her subject, she opens up a space where everything can be gathered and returned to its origin.

In even empty space is curved, Veronica Peralejo is showing a new series of objects as sculpture interpretations of the theory that the space-time fabric holds the universe together.

Christina Quisumbing Ramilo (b. 1961) examines and reimagines objects and surfaces through a sensitive approach to material and site specificity. Her recent exhibitions include Muscle Memory (2017), UNTITLED (2016), and Wit of the Staircase (2015) at Artinformal; Construct (2013) at Silverlens; and Residue (2013) at Galleria Duemila. She was part of the Filipino delegation to the 26th Asian International Art Exhibition at the Hangaram Museum (Seoul, 2011). She has recently done special projects as artist-in-residence at Langgeng Art Foundation (Yogyakarta, 2016), TAKSU (Kuala Lumpur, 2017) and the Taiwan East Coast Land Art Festival (Taitung, 2017).

Mawen Ong (b. 1964) runs MO_Space, a focal point for the ever-dynamic and innovative contemporary art scene in Manila. She is a member of King Kong Art Projects Unlimited, an initiative dedicated to archiving and preserving the works of Roberto Chabet. She obtained a business degree at St. Scholastica’s College and studied Painting at the University of the Philippines – College of Fine Arts. A few recent notable solo shows include Fear of Still Water at West Gallery (2016) and Homage to Trap at Blanc (2016).

Veronica Peralejo (b.1989) majored in painting and graduated with honors from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts in 2010. Her first solo exhibit, Pocket Universe (2015), was shortlisted in the Ateneo Art Awards. She has since then shown in various galleries such as Artinformal, West Gallery, The Drawing Room, and Vinyl on Vinyl.
