Speed Magazine’s Geek Wars™  2018 claims many firsts at SM Cyber Month launch
Speed Magazine, the country’s premier technology and lifestyle publication, wraps up the third year of its annual Geek Wars™ with many firsts.
For one, it coincided for the first time with the launch of SM Supermalls’ and Cyberzone’s Cyber Month on August 3, 2018, at the SM Mall of Asia Main Atrium. Cyber Month is SM’s annual activation that celebrates the tech life by giving shoppers awesome deals on gadgets as well as unique experiences.
Speed’s yearly gaming event, which tests the speed, skill, mental acuity, and fun factor of geek players was joined by members of the media and blogging community for the first time.
Team A, a.k.a. Techie Titas, is made up of Mia Barrientos and Marisa Consuelo of Gadgets Magazine, and Badeth Pangilinan of Chinese Commercial News. Team B, a.k.a. Team JAY, is composed of Anjie Delos Reyes of teknogadyet.com, Yrda Fernandez of gizguide.ph, and John Cueto of larawanatkape.ph. Bam Amor of adobotech.net, Raffy Pedrajita of Tech Patrol, and Enzo Luna of juanmanilaexpress.com completed the roster for Team C.
The teams competed in three tests to see who’s the geekiest of them all. The first game, called Power Tower, challenged the players’ speed, skill, and concentration. Representatives from each team were tasked to build a tower within one minute using six lug nuts skewered on a chopstick. Team A emerged as the winner for this round.
Round 2 was a trivia game with a tech twist. Using MSI gaming laptops and an online app called Kahoot!, teams answered various trivia questions about The Big Bang Theory, technology, and geek culture. This round was dominated by Team C.

Finally, teams played Act-choo!, a modified version of a popular guessing game. Each team was given a set of 10 words to act out and guess in one minute. Team B was the only one that got to guess all 10 words correctly, giving them the highest score for this round.
In the end, the all-female Team A emerged as the champion—another first—followed by Team C in second place, and Team B in third.
Team A brought home the grand prize package worth P11,700 each, which includes an MSI Headset bundle and prizes from Digital Walker, OtterBox, and Jack TV. Meanwhile, the second placers won a prize package worth P8,800 each, and finally, the team in third place took home P5,300 in prizes. All players also received gifts from DJI Philippines and The Walt Disney Company Philippines.
Geek Wars™ 2018  is part of Speed Magazine’s 15th anniversary celebration, and is made in partnership with SM Supermalls, Cyberzone, and MSI Notebooks. In cooperation with TV partner Jack TV, Digital Walker, Otterbox, and DJI Philippines, and with the participation of Goldilocks, Agents International Inc., and The Walt Disney Company Philippines.

MSI Notebooks highlights new thin bezel laptops
Prior to the Geek Wars™ 2018 program, MSI Notebooks also presented their latest line of gaming notebooks with a sleek form factor and thin bezel display—the GS65, GF63, and PS42 series—at the launch of SM Cyber Month.
The GS65 Stealth Thin is the first gaming laptop to feature a 144Hz 7ms IPS display with 4.9mm bezels, achieving a stunning 82 percent screen-to-body ratio. While the bezels are extremely thin, MSI certainly did not compromise on the placement of the webcam, leaving just enough room for it in the top bezel. The GS65 Stealth Thin also carries the latest 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, a GTX 1060 or 1070 graphics card, Cooler Boost Trinity cooling system, per-key RGB keyboard by SteelSeries, and is equipped with Dragon Center 2.0 with exclusive gaming mode.
The GF63, on the other hand, has a bolder look that features a metallic top and keyboard cover with a unique X-shaped ventilation hidden underneath. Immersive gameplay has just gotten better with an even more compact chassis. The battery also lasts up to more than 7 hours so you can do and enjoy more productivity and entertainment tasks.
The PS42, meanwhile, is perfect for on-the-go techies. Durable yet lightweight, it’s chassis is crafted with hair-brushed aluminum and only weighs 1.9kg and as thin as 15.9mm. PS42 will never fail its user when it comes to handling temperature as this notebook is equipped with MSI’s exclusive Cooler Boost 3 Technology, with 2 dedicated fans and 3 heat pipes. It stands out among the competition, keeping your laptop cool even in intense usage.
The MSI GF63 and PS42 are all available for pre-order at MSI Concept Stores in SM Mall of Asia and SM Megamall, and at Complink stores.
